Striving for Purity Discussion Aids

This discussion aid is intended for those who wish to remain free from the bondage of pornography and unwholesome material. It is designed to be used in a small group setting and encourages the sharing of weapons in the battle against sin and Satan. We all face various temptations and battle the flesh in different ways. Sometimes we are successful and sometimes we struggle. Sharing our successes and struggles with others can be beneficial and encouraging as we all strive for pure lives and hearts. Satan wants us to believe we are the only one with struggles and thereby tries to isolate us and keep us in darkness and shame.

Each lesson has a couple of verses followed by a few questions to provoke conversation and to cause each one to study God’s Word more fully in his own individual life. Following the verses and questions are three accountability questions. These should not be ignored and should be answered truthfully. While unpleasant, confession is required and necessary. Knowing these questions must be answered may serve as a deterrent to sin. These questions may be changed according to the age and needs of the participants.

We suggest beginning and ending with a prayer offered by one of the attendees. It is our hope each participant may feel the blessings of God as they study, and that God might be glorified.

Ephesians 3:21 “Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

Sex Is Not The Problem (Lust Is)–Sexual Purity in a Lust-Saturated World    amazon.com
Author: Joshua Harris

It provides biblical, practical instruction for dealing with sexual temptation and is applicable for both men and women, whether single or married.

Resisting the Lure: Recognizing the Dangers of Sexual Temptation
In this pamphlet, the author compares sexual temptation to “a fishing lure that makes a trout think he’s getting his favorite meal.”  He describes the consequences of misdirected sexual desire and reminds the reader that “Jesus taught that sexuality is first and foremost a matter of the heart.” The author concludes with a 13-step scripturally based program that will help a person find forgiveness, achieve deliverance, resist temptation, and develop healthy habits.
