OCD and Scrupulosity

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by obsessions (unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that lead to uncertainty/distress) and compulsions (behaviors or mental actions that are intended to relieve distress). Religious scrupulosity is when OCD wraps around matters of faith and morality leading to distress and interference in one’s spiritual life and practices. ACCFS has a special focus on encouraging effective treatment of religious scrupulosity among Christians and believes that care of OCD respects and supports an individual’s faith.
