Motherhood is a challenging and wonderful role in which our Creator designed. It can be easy to let our human tendencies of either fear or anger rule as we parent our children. Instead, let us pursue the call of servant leadership where we as mothers are willing to learn and grow as mothers who are led and ruled by the Holy Spirit. A few resources to encourage us in this area are listed below:

  • Depression During and After Pregnancy – This site provides information on depression associated with pregnancy, the symptoms associated with it, and the various types of treatment. [Women’s Health.gov]
  • The Worn Out Woman by Dr. Steve Stephens, Alice Grey – This 218-page practical and biblically based book provides simple steps that can help restore joy and energy to one’s life. The book provides many suggestions for self-soothing and coping and addresses issues such as perfectionism, unrealistic expectations, worry, and people pleasing.   • Bringing up Girls by Dr. James Dobson – This 304-page book will equip parents to face the challenges of raising their daughters to become healthy, happy, and successful women who overcome challenges specific to girls and women today and who ultimately excel in life. [Amazon]
  • Bringing Up Boys by Dr. James Dobson – This 269-page book encourages fostering the growth of boys into the men God intended them to be. [Amazon]
  • The Blessing by Gary Smalley, John Trent – This 272-page book offers a fresh, updated look at the life-changing gift the Bible calls the blessing. Many of us – perhaps unknowingly – spend a lifetime striving for this acceptance.
