Attachment Styles in Marriage

Attachment styles are impacted by early childhood experiences and shape our behavior, beliefs, and expectations in marriage. While your attachment style can be activated within any relationship, it is particularly active in your marriage. Understanding your attachment style helps make sense of the way you and your spouse relate to each other. Our attachment styles are often a defensive mechanism that helps protects us from a lack of sufficient emotional connection and nurturing when you were a child. This style may have been adaptive as children, but it can act as a barrier to deep and fulfilling intimate relationships as adults.

One easy and quick way to identify your attachment style is to take the following quiz – The Love Style Quiz. This quiz takes about 15 – 20 minutes to complete and is designed to help you discover your primary attachment style.
