Keys To A Healthy Marriage Bible Study

What is a healthy marriage?
God designed and ordained marriage in the Garden of Eden. In this setting, He clearly stated, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet [suitable helper] for him.” (Gen. 2:18). In the marriage relationship, the man is to “leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh”. (Gen. 2:24). This marital union creates a foundation for companionship, procreation, healthy sexual fulfillment, and an opportunity for helping and serving each other and others. In society today, this union is under attack and there is tremendous pressure to deviate from these biblical standards. Unhappy, soulless marriages which do not honor God and His purpose lead all too often to compromise, decay, and ultimately, divorce or separation. The word “healthy” lends toward the idea of life and growth. There are many influences in society and the world around us which would seek to negatively affect and hinder marital bliss and growth. We have been given some powerful principles in God’s Word which can be applied to each marriage to encourage it on the path toward this picture of health. In this study, we will look at these principles and seek to give opportunity for each couple to grow and apply these principles along their marriage journey.

Marriage is often portrayed as a triangle with God at the top. As husband and wife individually draw closer to God, they will be drawn closer to each other. (Ecclesiastes 4:12) “…a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Our prayer is that this study would draw each couple closer to God and thereby closer to each other.

This comprehensive 10-lesson Bible study was developed by ACCFS. In addition to some text followed by questions, each lesson includes an exercise for each couple to complete privately.
